If you a re looking for a future star then  UK Graded UK Hanoverian Stallion Woodlander Summertime Blues  should be top of your list

Woodlander Summertime Blues was the top 2 year old dressage horse at the British Breeding Futurity in 2014 and has also been graded with both the German and UK Hanoverian Societies and with the WBS-Uk.

I am looking forward to seeing him mature, some tension during his stallion show was evident but the judges still praised him for his great power and long lines he shows all the elasticity and expression that the judges look for. His natural elevation can be seen in his trot and he will only improve on this with training under saddle. Lynne Chapman says he also has a super canter, which is going to prove invaluable in a horse with this lovely confirmation. At his Hanoverian grading the Judge, Dr Christmann, said of this eye catching black 16.3hh Stallion that “…he was the image of his great grand dam, the mare St Pr Pikantje who was German National Champion under saddle.

Woodlander Summertime Blues’ Sire, Spörcken, was the highest priced stallion at the 2010 verden Auctions, and deservedly so. An exceptionally elegant uphill and powerful horse with an beautiful trot. His well made shoulder and forearm allowing the coveted forward, elevated and elegant gait so coveted in the dressage arena. Spörcken Is by the world famous Sir Donnerhall, himself a successful performance horse, he is sire of an impressive list of Bundeschampion offspring,. Sir Donnerhall was the five year old world champion dressage horse, with 89 licenced stallions by him and 80 state premium registered mares to his record.

La Beale Isoud,Spörckens’ dam Sire is by Lauries Crusador xx a had success on the British racing Circuit was a Hanoverian State Stallion for 23 years. He sired 2,713 foals of which 264 mares became state premium and 55 sons were licensed.

Woodlander Summertime Blues’ Dam Moulin Rouge Daughter of Alabama who also bred The licensed WSBS graded stallion Santana. The Graded Warmblood Breeders Studbook stallion for 2009 bred at Woodlander Stud and now standing for the Trevoulter Barton Stud

Dam Sire is the tall Elegant Grand Prix Stallion (2xBundecshampionat Finalist ) Margue Hwho has a high percentage of TB in his breeding through his sire the Anglo Arab Mont Du Chantal with Florestan ii, through Mon Fleury, boosting his great modern shape., he has Cardinal XX on his Dams side. Standing for Sue Carson (Saddles) List 1 British dressage Judge, who says “…he is a powerful, handsome and willing ride” from whom his delighted owner claims, she has learnt a huge amount. Margue H Progeny are now making headlines at Grand Prix with Mystery (by Margue H x Delano) ridden by the Polish rider Zaneta Skowronska on the podium at the 2014 CDI Radzionkow on home territory.

Tamarillo

Tamarillo: Such Sad News

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

It is so sad to hear that the legendary Event Horse Tamarillo has been put to sleep.  William Fox Pitt rode this wonderful horse to victory eventing at the top eventing venues, both nationally and internationally.

He was not, according to William, the easiest of rides…but it seems he was consistent and William certainly made the best of him. Looked after by The Fox Pitts’ wonderful head girl Jackie Potts at the Fox Pitts yard in Dorset, Jackie played a large part in his life. William said “he had an incredible presence, he was one in a million and I feel very lucky to have partnered him for all those special years” and there are many in the event world who will mourn his passing. Horse Scout would like to pass on its own sympathies to William, The Guiness’ and to Jackie Potts in particular.

Tamarillo was bred at the Biddesdon Stud by the Guinness family. Having started his career with Diana Burgess at Tweezledown in 1997 Tamarillo had nine years at the top of his game. William took the ride on him in 1999 and his eventing career went from good to brilliant after his first three day event in 2000 where he took 1st at Blarney Castle CCI** and also 2nd at Blenheim in the ***.

Two years later Team GB took bronze at the World Equestrian Games in Athens; the same year that he also won Badminton, the worlds seminal **** course.

He went on to take impressive prizes for William and the Guinness’s, including Team Gold at the Blenheim European Eventing Championships in 2005, Team silver at the World Equestrian Games, Aachen in 2006 and he finished his career with a 1st at Burghley CCI**** in 2008.

This impressive Gelding was out of Mary Guiness’s eventing mare Mellita (campaigned by Lucinda Green) who is also the dam of their lovely part arab event stallion Persiflage. His Sire is a Polish Thoroughbred endurance Stallion called Tarnik who was just over a 1/4 Arab and won had the 26-mile Arab Horse Society Marathon.(find out more about Persiflage here on his Horse Scout stallion listing).

For the breeding world and Biddesdon Stud it was apparent that Tamarillo had a good genetic make up and in 2013 the Guiness family were delighted to welcome Tomatillo, Tamarillos’ clone, into the world.  He was born in New Mexico and has now moved, with his surrogate dam to a stud farm in New Jersey.  The Biddesdon Stud will, in time, bring him home to the UK.  He is a colt foal and whilst his competitive career is not, as yet, mapped out, it is certain, however, that, all things being equal, Biddesdon Stud will be breeding from him.

Show Jumping Stallion Babeleh

Show Jumping Stallion Review: Babeleh

For Breeders Looking to Improve Performance with a Show Jumping Stallion: Balebeh offers concessions to Grade A mares.

For those breeding to improve performance in show jumping the stallion Balenbeh is a handsome, compact, well made Selle Italiono with a good shoulder slope and humorous length giving him a good shape over a fence. Now campaigned by Emma Jowsey here in the UK.

Standing at Ballinmore Stud in Yorkshire this lovely show jumping performance stallion has already proved his genetics with offspring competing in the international arena. As a young sire his progeny included A Brok a chestnut KWPN 2005 gelding15 currently competing at a 1.50m level with Rein Pill, and the KWPN Registered Bay Stallion Abaldo.

Bred in Holland by Alessandro Pellegrini, an internationally recognised Show Jumping Breeder, who has bred and produced top show jumpers for more than 20 years. Balebeh was Graded and Approved with the Zangersheide stud as a 4 year old Stallion and was 5th at the Dutch National Stallion Championships. He is also a Graded AES Stallion and has been awarded the Silver Stallion Medal with the BSJA.

His Show Jumping career was started in Italy at 6 years old and he has competed at CSI 4* Level, jumping here in the UK and in Italy.

Babelehs’ own show jumping genetics are assured. His sire is the Olympic stallion Baloubet du Rouet . Baloubet du Rouet is a 3 times World Champion Show Jumping Stallion with 2 gold medals and an Olympic Team Bronze. And this line comes from Galbouet by Alme, also an Olympic stallion, winning team gold at the World Show Jumping Championships in 1982.

His dam Tallisman Girl (Lucky boy xx. ) has also bred Millemiglia (2001) who is already successfully campaigned by the Italian International Show Jumper Filippo Moyersoen. Another relation from Alessandro Pellegrinis’ stable is Adwana (Lucky Boy/Lucky Boy xx) is campaigned by International Show Jumper, turned Eventer, Juan Carlos Garcia.

Lucky Boy XX has 27 approved stallions to his name and is clearly one of the key foundation stallions of the modern Show Jumper.

This well made show jumping stallion, Balebeh, has a neat, powerful jump. He is an agile stallion with plenty of power and yet has a surprisingly long stride, which is why he has been successful on the international tracks. He also has the best of temperaments, not only to cope with the stresses of a show jumping career but also one which makes him a dream to handle at home.

For Breeders looking for an excellent stallion which offers good value this show jumping improver stallion has a Stallion Profile on Horse Scout and offers concessions to Grade A Show Jumping Mares.

Timolin - British Bred Futurity Elite Stallion

A Futurity Breeding Elite Stallion: Timolin

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Timolin stands at Catherston Stud. With his first crop of foals born this year Timolin has set a high bench mark on the Futurity Breeding  stage for his offspring.

Timolin A Futurity Breeding Elite Stallion steps into the competitive arena as Catherston Studs rising star, moves on from this three Futurity  Breeding Elite Gradings to start his competitive career.

Catherston Stud, surely, could not be more pleased, Timolin is already proving himself  and has  the important championship qualifiers under his belt.

With an assured future as an imporver stallion this young stallion the head turning presence and superior gaits and build of his dressage pedigree and the jump and ground covering canter to produce not only dressage progeny but is expected to sire horses to event as well.

British Breeding Futurity Grading Awards

It must be thrilling beyond words to see a horse that you have bred gain his third Futuriy Elite Grading and the Catherston Stud (he property of Mr & Mrs A G Loriston-Clarke, Lizzie Murray and Hilary Davey) acquired this fabulous young stallion in February this year. Timolin, Graded with SHB-GB & BWBS, is already a father with his first stock foaling this year. Timolin, who is scheduled to go for Sports Horse grading this October, has “a charming Character and loves showing off” says Anne Dicker who manages the Catherston Stud. This year Timolin has started his competitive career and has qualified for both the National Dressage Championships in the Shearwater Potential International Dressage Horse 4 year olds and for the Albion Saddlemakers Young Dressage Horse of the Future 2015 Championships which take place at Badminton at the end of July. So not long until we see him sparkle, but before that he has joined Sports Horse Breeding GB Stallion Parade where, Catehrston say, he took the whole thing in his stride and is building a veritable fan club following.

The next crop of Futurity Breeding Super Stars?

By May Timolin had had four babies all of whom seem to have inherited his good looks and conformation and their sire was out winning the Blue Chip Sports Horse Qualifier. Horse Scout are looking forward to seeing some facebook updates on the Timolin Babies.

Timolins breeding has a great gene pool and the Futurity gradings are all credit to his breeding. Timolins Sire Totilas was a super star (and still is) of the dressage world. His results record with the FEI had 12 wins in 12 outings under Matthias Alexander Rath where he is for the most part outshining his nearest competitor by four or five full marks! An incredible dressage stallion. Born in 2000 he was competing at Grand Prix with Edward Gal by the age of nine and at 15 is still the king of the circuit whenever he competes. He was the first horse ever to score over 90in a dressage competition. His FEI record speaks for its self; a total of 45 1st places in 53 FEI Dressage competitions with three world cup Gold Medals with Edward Gal. “He has taken the sport to a whole new level.” Said Anne Gribbons (2010) of this record breaking horse the technical dressage advisor to the USEF. In his first year at stud he generated fees of nearly €1.4 million. With an embryo sold for 32,000 Euro in 2010.

Whilst there has been controversy over the methods employed in his training, this does not detract from the fact that he has been hugely successful and deservedly reigns supreme in the stallion rankings. Totilas, himself a KWPN Dressage Stallion, is jet black, standing a full 17.1hh he is just a little taller than his sire Gribaldi (Trakhener), and sports four short white socks (a particular feature on both his sire and dams line) as opposed to his fathers two, although his snip is very small in comparison Garibaldi and Totilas look remarkably like each other and of course Garibaldi was also an Olympic Dressage Stallion. Totilas Dam bred 7 offspring four of whom were by Gribaldi. Her early offspring Platini and Ramon where also very successfully campaigned in the dressage arena .

Timolins Dam Samira (also owned by Aram Gregory who rides for Hong Kong) was a Grand Prix horse herself campaigned with Jane Gregory (his wife who sadly died in 2011 was an Olympic Champion twice)). She stood an enormous full 18hh and her dam bred three proven performance offspring who compete/d in Germany. However her Sire Sion was a very successful general purpose stallion with offspring competing at Dressage, Eventing and Show Jumping as did his sire Sultan.

Timolin is certainly set to be a star of the future and Catherston Stud must be thrilled with their purchase. Horse Scout is shortly to publish an interview with Jennie Loriston Clarke where she will talk about Timolin and his future. I know Horse Scout readers will be looking forward to this.

Horse Scout are so impressed with the lovely horse that we have already blogged about him three times. Find out more about Timolin on his Horse Scout Stallion Profile page or read up on his news articles on the Horse Scout Blog.

Horse Scout Profiled Professional rider: Jennie Loriston-Clarke MBE, FBHS, NPSD: an Icon of British Equestrianism.

A guru, an inspiration and an aspiration to so many in her long career, a main stay of the horse world.  From serious professional to grass roots riders confidence is given by her presence on so many committees. She has now stepped down as Chair of British Dressage after seven years at the helm but remains a key player on so many others. Her advice and expertise is a sought after commodity in so many areas of the equestrian industry. She has recently re editioned her book Lunging and Long reining – one of the most comprehensive “how to” guides I think I have ever read. Every eventuality and horse language nuance is covered, and obviously written by drawing on her deep knowledge gained through hands on experiences over her 45 year career at the top of her game. She has also written three other really helpful and informative books. The Illustrated Guide to Dressage, Young Horse Breaking and Training and also a Complete Guide To Dressage. She also has a “Successful Dressage” Series out on DVD.

Biography of Jennie Loriston Clarke

Virtually born in a saddle her Brother, Michael Bullen, and sister, Jane (nee Bullen) Holderness Rodden, where also international and Olympic Riders who represented Great Britain successfully on the Eventing Teams. Another sister, Sarah, famously featured in international Velvet (as Beth). A film which also featured Jane as “a rider”. Her Mother Anne Bullen, who was an accomplished Artist/Illustrator, founded the Catherston Stud in 1949,would often paint her (six) children and their ponies. Jennie Loriston Clark commented in an Horse and Hound interview that she “was not sure if her mother ever slept”!

Jennie Loriston Clarke has, herself, represented Great Britain on Olympic Teams four times, her first at the age of 29 at the Munchen Games riding Kadett who she also took to the Montreal Games. Her next Olympic ride was on Prince Consort in the Los Angeles Olympics of 1984 followed four years later with the incredible Dutch Gold on whom she won a Bronze Medal at the World Games. She followed Dutch Gold with Dutch Courage who she trainer herself from the age of three, who came over from Holland. Initially he was a very difficult ride but with Jennies’ patience he proved himself and was then put to stud. Stamping his stock well and becoming a key foundation of the Catherston Stud.

Jennie Loriston Clarkes’ famous career with these successful horses has undoubtedly benefitted from her wide experience in the other disciplines. She has ridden Point to Point, evented, shown hunters…. The list is possibly endless.

Jennie has now handed the reins of Catherston Stud to her Daughter Anne Dicker and her husband Brian, took over in 2011 and moved their staff with them to Catherston Stud from Hurstbourne Equestrain Centre which they had established in 2001.

Jennie is still a large presence in the breeding world. Jennie was the first Briton to be invited to Judge the World Breeding Championships in Verden she has stood as judge for World Cup Dressage Qualifiers and was on the jury at the Finals in Amsterdam in 2005 and is an Evaluator for the British Equestrian Federations Futurity Scheme which evaluates Britain’s potential performance horses as foals, yearlings and three year olds awarding points which then indicate the likely performance careers. An elite premium indicates that the horse has the potential and outlook to perform at international level.

Sought after as a panel judge Jennie still judges at events, and shows and is invited to speak all over the world. Jennie Lorsiton Clark is a Profiled Professional Rider on Horse Scout and you can use this link to find out more about her and also to follow her.

Samara fly Dual Purpose Stallion

Dual Purpose Stallion the Skewbald Tobiano Samara Fly

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

An eye catching and coloured Dual Purpose performance stallion Samara Fly standing at Longacres Stud

Samara Flys’ credentials as a Dual Purpose Stallion

Samara Fly carries his 17.0hh with powerful athleticism. Owned by Mandy Sanderson, Samara Fly is a Dual Purpose Anglo European Registered Sports Horse with a passport full of ticks in the right boxes.  His pedigree Sambertino KWPN (Samber ex Illustra), Dam: Annie XVIII SHB(GB) (Tullibards Shakespeare ex Grange Girl Pet) back up his performance potential..

However, its not just performance that matters to breeders and temperament is often key to stallion choice.  This quiet, companionable and highly trainable stallion lives on a mixed yard and hacks out on the moors at home from the Longacres Stud.

His “clients” are obviously very happy with their offspring and this is more than backed up by the number of breeders posting up to Samara Flys’ “facebook” page.  What has been very interesting is the obvious stamp of Samara Fly on his offspring: They do, to a man, seem to stand well on all four corners with good shape to their bodies and well set heads and necks. Interestingly, they are, bar a very few, all coloured and most carry the widened blaze over the nostrils.  The over arching impression though is one of interest in the camera!! Something their father is not shy of either.

Samara Fly is fully graded with both CHAPS UK and ISPA (now LHI). The Irish Sports Horse grading thorough his dams line as well as a fully licensed stallion with the Zfdp (Zuchtverband fuer deutsche Pferde e. V.) where he was the youngest UK stallion, at the time, to receive this grading. His grandsire the Skewbald KWPN Samber was not only a very useful jumping horse but also a Grand Prix dressage horse.

In 2011 he received his full AES (Anglo European Studbook) grading as a Dressage Stallion.  Indeed another first for this lovely coloured stallion.

Samara Fly is Dual Purpose in the Judges Eyes

His judges would, it seems agree with his usefulness as a dual purpose horse. In the same year he qualified for Badminton Young Dressage Horse gaining a 7th at the finals, he also qualified for, and made a good account of himself, in the Summer Regionals that year and qualified for the Pet Plan Medium following this up with a qualification for the Winter Regionals too.

He has started his jumping career under British Show Jumping with Sarah Lundy and has also made successful appearances in the show ring.

As a performance horse Samara Fly is working well, and above average for a horse of his age. Campaigned from Novice up to PSG by YGB rider Alex C Ingoe-Topham under Michael Eiberg since 2010. Michael has been a supporter of this horses career and who firmly believed that this lovely horse would go to Grand Prix (and I have no doubt he was right!) said;

So much upward movement, the like I have never seen in a Coloured Horse ! …”He is the Coloured horse of the future…The one to Watch !!”

The ride is now with Hannah Doggett who has upped his game, and his success record since April this year. His results are nothing less than impressive.  Competing at Advanced Medium and Prix Saint Georges he has taken a ribbon at every show so far with upwards of 665% at most outings and an impressive 67.3% at AM for the Summer Qualifier at Cockshot along with top slot on her other ride the Andalusian stallion Hortelano Cen in the Medium.

At the Hartpury Festival of Dressage Michael Eiberg must have been pleased to see Samara Fly with Hanna Hoggett in the Elite Stallion class where this young stallion performed well in a very strong field where the marks ranged from just touching 60 right up to the outstanding score by Micheal Eibergs’ ride with Woodlander Farouche at 0ver 77%.

Longacres Stud, who bred from Samara Fly as a 3 year old, have 33 of his progeny with the stud prefix Longacres. Samara fly has some 55 progeny now listed the first looking set to show the world how successful Samara Fly Progeny will be.

With his progeny featuring in the Futurity programs across all three disciplines he is proving himself a versatile performance improving dual purpose stallion and even only so few years in his ranking with BEF is already 7.77.

You can find out more about this attractive dual purpose performance stallion through his profile on horse Scout the website which connects breeding lines and professionals.

The combined Florencio x Jazz bloodlines are extremely popular, and successful; the progeny exhibiting the grace, elevation and power of their breeding lines. White socks are definitely a feature of the line along with an elegant head and intelligent look.

At year older Fiderschwung by Fidertanz (Grand Prix Dr.) by Fidermark I (Grad.Prix Dr.) x Sandro Hit 1 lines (WSBFH top 8 2013 and 7 2014) again owned by Matt along with Mrs Sandra Thomas  an elegant chestnut with the build so liked by Matt strong through the shoulder and second thigh with a well set refined neck and the modern longer back which give these horses their ground covering advantage.
