Grafenstolz- A Master of all Trades

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

He’s dark, handsome, elegant and has talent in abundance. If you ever see him in the flesh or watch him in action, he would undoubtedly make an impression on you. The Trakehner stallion Grafenstolz, is certainly proving hot property in the breeding world right now and he is just one of the many, first class stallions we profile on Horse Scout.

Rarely do you find an stallion who both in his own performance and that of his off-spring has proven to be a Master of all Trades. In fact you would be hard pressed to find many stallions with better all-round credentials. Grafenstolz currently stands at Number One in the British Eventing stallion rankings and is in the top 10 of the World rankings for good reason but he is also siring a number of quality jumpers and dressage horses.

large_image4

The fact that World No 1 eventer Michael Jung chose to compete him as a young horse is testament to the stallion’s ability. The pair won the prestigious Bundeschampionnat 6 year old eventing championships (the German Young Horse Championships) and was also a finalist for the 6 year old Jumping and Dressage Championships. That same year, he won the World Eventing Championships in Lion d’Angers and then displayed his extraordinary scope and bravery when clearing 2 metres in an International Puissance competition.

His progeny are displaying the same talent, willingness and bravery together and seem to be inheriting his elegant movement. Some of his successful representatives include Grand Prix Iwet who finished 4th at Waregem in CSI3* level showjumping; Santana’s Gold who won the Junior European Championships; Gina K, Telstar de Bardenave, Saviola 3, Giaccomo YSS and Mr Schabel are all competing CCI3* eventing. Then in young horse classes he has dominated the Burghley Young Event Horse Finals as well as the French Young Horse Championships.

He is also the damsire of the reserve champion at the 2015 Trakehner approvals, Fellini who is now in training with leading Dressage rider Helen Langehanenberg.

Grafenstolz stands at 167cm and is approved by a number of the main studbooks: Trakehner, Selle Francais, AES, Anglo Arab, Hannovarian and is ranked number one of all the stallions in Baden-Wurttemberg.

His own breeding is exemplary. His sire Polarion qualified several times for the World Cup Finals in dressage and went to the European Championships with Laura Bechtolsheimer. His damline is equally impressive as his mother is the full sister of the approved stallion Gypsy King and the approved stallions Guy Laroche and Grimani are from this damline.

His stud fee remains at 900 euros plus VAT this season which includes a live foal guarantee.

Premium Pony Stallions Joins Horse Scout

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Horse Scout is delighted to have one of the most exciting premium pony stallions in the UK listed with them.  Chartsturmer WE is the exquisite, 4 year old, chestnut pony stallion, by Caramel FH and owned by Ann-Marie Manning and ridden by sister Jennifer Manning.

chart3

“We met the Horse Scout team at the Bury Farm Stallion show and agreed that Horse Scout would be a great platform to promote Chartsturmer WE from” confirmed the Manning sisters.

The incredibly smart Chartsturmer WE achieved his Premium status grading and licence with Weser Ems in Vechta, Germany in 2015, where he was only 1 of 5 colts to achieve the prestigious title.

At only 4 years of age this beautifully tempered pony displays three impressive and balanced paces. An elevated, powerful, yet graceful trot with a wonderfully active hind leg, a superbly active walk and canter, that already display so much scope and potential for his future, both as a competition pony and breeding stallion.

chart2

Purchased as a yearling, it has always been the Manning’s aim to both produce ‘Charti’ as a leading competition pony and breeding stallion.

“Our long term aim is to produce him as an FEI dressage pony, but also to help dressage pony breeding within the UK.  We saw that the British Breeding industry was in need of a stallion like Chartsturmer WE, and it has always been an aim of ours to help improve this area of the industry” added Jennifer Manning.

chart4

Backed in 2016 Charti is now into his ridden career and will feature in the Northern Stallion Show later in March, along with Stallions AI in April.  Ann-Marie and Jennifer also plan to aim him at the British Dressage Young Pony classes later this year, as part of his own competition pathway and to build his own profile as both an elite competition and pony stallion.

“He is aimed at the competition mare and we will be looking to work with approved mares, but he has only got one breeding season under him at the moment, with 2 offspring due this season.  As much as it is our aim to support the dressage pony breeding industry in the UK, we have also had interest from the eventing market looking to produce smaller event horses with high quality dressage paces.”

Exclusive: Event Stallion

Performance Sports Event Stallion: Exclusive

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

A covetable stallion, Exclusive offers his first offspring this year.

Exclusive is a good looking Dutch Warmblood Stallion with Emily Llewellyn, known as Kevin at home, at Paddock Woods Stud. Standing 16.2hh, this handsome black event horse is a proven performance Eventing Stallion with the best British blood lines.

Campaigned by The Mayfly Syndicate, Exclusive won the Novice at Chatsworth International Horse Trials earlier this month.

British Eventing Magazine describe Exclusive as ‘A covetable black stallion’ with some very good British Eventing results to date, including winning his first novice at five years old. He has five foals due this year.

Emily Llewellyn says she bought Exclusive at the Brightwells sales, because he looked like Totilas!” Exclusive is proving a well judged buy – “He’s so confident within himself” said Emily “but the best part is how reliable he is on a day-to-day basis. He just comes out and works the same every day.”

Paddock Wood Stallions describe Exclusive as a lovely genuine and very talented young stallion. He is a beautiful modern type and combines the most laid back approach to life with a huge enthusiasm to work and to please. He is a lovely gentle nature and very straightforward to ride. This is his second season at stud, his first crop are due this spring.

We have great hopes for him in his Eventing career. In 2014 he had outstanding form and was only out of the top 10 once; he won his first Novice and won several other events. Exclusive is listed in the top 20 BE stallions for 2014 and is now a licensed stallion with Breeders Elite Studbook.

Exclusives sire Warrant made his international debut under Henk van der Pol in the winter of 2011/12, performing very well at 1.50 level, and now 1.60m. In April 2012 he was 10th in the Dutch Championships, by far the least experienced competitor at this level.

Meanwhile his eldest offspring, Wiranta Z, has been sold to Stuart Harvey in England and is impressing hugely. With Exclusive Grand Sire also proving himself as a top performance horse and sire of elite offspring.

Dowland KO Bo Diddley

Dowland K.O. Bo Diddley : Brownscombe Stud

A small but perfectly formed Dowland K.O. Bo Diddley BWBS Stallion standing at Brownscombe Stud.

A BWBS 15hh Trakhener, Dowland K.O. Bo Diddley, an ideal sire to produce competition ponies and small competition horses. Considered by the grading judges to be “an improver type with good elasticity”, Dowland K.O. Bo Diddley was The Reserve Champion of the Sports Pony Studbook Society at the 2009 Grading and made history by becoming the first pure Trakehner to Grade as a Sports Pony Stallion, Dowland K.O. Bo Diddley carries some of the best dressage bloodlines.

Dowland K.O. Bo Diddley has an outstanding temperament and a superb loose jump. He carries some of the best dressage bloodlines and his foals, out of a variety of mares, have all inherited his lovely athletic movement and temperament. His oldest progeny will be backed in 2014/5. Horse Scout is looking forward to seeing their profiles uploaded and watching their progress.

At his grading, Dowland K.O. Bo Diddleyey scored a nine for his canter, which was described by the judges Lynne Crowden and Geoff Glazzard as “athletic” with “good cadence and engagement of hindquarters”. The judges described his loose jumping as having “natural freedom and a lot of scope”.

Bo has been backed and brought on slowly, and is proving to be exceptionally trainable.

Dowland K.O. Bo Diddleys’ sire Holme Park Kalibre is a full brother to the graded Trakehner stallion Holme Park Krug. Kalibre is no longer entire and Bo is his only entire son, and his Dam Holme Grove Cezanne is a graded BWBS pony mare.

This is a lovely small stallion and well worth checking out.

Elite Showjumping Stallion: Billy Congo

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Billy Congo:  “I’m just in love with some of the young horses by Billy Congo” says William Funnel to the AES in January this year.

Billy Congo achieved Gold British Show Jumping Elite Stallion status in 2010 ridden by William Funnell. He was part of the Nations Cup winning team at Hickstead jumping a double clear round and was also selected for the British Team squad for Dublin. He was placed sixth in The Super League Grand Prix in Falsterbo Sweden again jumping a double clear round and was 2nd in the Derby Trial at Hickstead and won the International Bunn Leisure Tankard class.

His successes continued at Grand Prix through 2011 to last year and 2015 looks set to be a star year with Billy Congo already taking good placing’s in his 3* competitions this year.

By AES & Irish Horse Board Approved stallion Vechta, who is by the famous world class sire Voltaire. Vechta’s extended pedigree carries 3 crosses to influential TB stallions Lucky Boy, Cottage Son and Furioso and top level performance sports horses, these performers and progeny include the great For Pleasure, Heisman, Faust Z and Maximillian Voltucky, champion young stallion at the SHB (GB) stallion grading.

Billy Congo’s Dam Billy Autumn was herself and successful Grand Prix Showjumper and her sire, Animo, is among the elite jumping stallions in the world today.

Billy Congo’s young stock are now showing their potential.

In 2011, Billy Umbongo was joint winner of the Four Year Old Championships at the Addington, the following year he jumped clear everyday to pick up the bonus for the British bred 5yr olds. 2014 has seen Billy Umbongo go on his first sunshine tour to Spain and jumped numerous clear rounds in the 7yr old classes.

With his deep understanding of the breeding process, breeders should be assured by William Funnels responses to the Anglo European Stud Book when asked “Is Billy Congo the best?” and “Which stallion brought you the best horses?” his response was:

“Billy Congo is the best! No, I’m a modest man, but I’m just so in love with some of the young horses by Billy Congo. Some six and seven-year-olds in my stables. What I experience with Billy Congo is that he gives blood and produces careful sport types. There aren’t many stallions like that. For most stallions you need a blood mare. He doesn’t need that. I think most people don’t even realise how good he is because I think he is suited more to the European mares than the English blood types. He’s good on the typical continental mares, because he’s a strong horse with a good back and good hind end. That’s why I think we should sell more semen to Europe. There are not enough stallions with this type in Europe. Together with Kees Van Den Oetelaar I’m dividing the semen in Europe now. We have just finished another period of freezing his semen. His semen is better than any other, and his frozen is as good as the fresh.”
