He’s dark, handsome, elegant and has talent in abundance. If you ever see him in the flesh or watch him in action, he would undoubtedly make an impression on you. The Trakehner stallion Grafenstolz, is certainly proving hot property in the breeding world right now and he is just one of the many, first class stallions we profile on Horse Scout.

Rarely do you find an stallion who both in his own performance and that of his off-spring has proven to be a Master of all Trades. In fact you would be hard pressed to find many stallions with better all-round credentials. Grafenstolz currently stands at Number One in the British Eventing stallion rankings and is in the top 10 of the World rankings for good reason but he is also siring a number of quality jumpers and dressage horses.

large_image4

The fact that World No 1 eventer Michael Jung chose to compete him as a young horse is testament to the stallion’s ability. The pair won the prestigious Bundeschampionnat 6 year old eventing championships (the German Young Horse Championships) and was also a finalist for the 6 year old Jumping and Dressage Championships. That same year, he won the World Eventing Championships in Lion d’Angers and then displayed his extraordinary scope and bravery when clearing 2 metres in an International Puissance competition.

His progeny are displaying the same talent, willingness and bravery together and seem to be inheriting his elegant movement. Some of his successful representatives include Grand Prix Iwet who finished 4th at Waregem in CSI3* level showjumping; Santana’s Gold who won the Junior European Championships; Gina K, Telstar de Bardenave, Saviola 3, Giaccomo YSS and Mr Schabel are all competing CCI3* eventing. Then in young horse classes he has dominated the Burghley Young Event Horse Finals as well as the French Young Horse Championships.

He is also the damsire of the reserve champion at the 2015 Trakehner approvals, Fellini who is now in training with leading Dressage rider Helen Langehanenberg.

Grafenstolz stands at 167cm and is approved by a number of the main studbooks: Trakehner, Selle Francais, AES, Anglo Arab, Hannovarian and is ranked number one of all the stallions in Baden-Wurttemberg.

His own breeding is exemplary. His sire Polarion qualified several times for the World Cup Finals in dressage and went to the European Championships with Laura Bechtolsheimer. His damline is equally impressive as his mother is the full sister of the approved stallion Gypsy King and the approved stallions Guy Laroche and Grimani are from this damline.

His stud fee remains at 900 euros plus VAT this season which includes a live foal guarantee.

Mr Visto is in the news; this Carron Nicol Show Jumping Stallion is Graded Elite AES  and a Silver Elite BSJA Stallion  who has already won over £7,000 and is well placed in the BSJA Horse League.

Mr Visto has all the well made good looks of a show jumping legend in the making.  He has certainly inherited his looks and ability from his sire Levisto, along with his easy temperament and, apparently, unruly mane!

Mr Visto is consistently successful in the arena and took the ribbons at The International Stairways and International trials at 1.55m level and was placed in The Queen Elizabeth Cup. To date he has a purse of over £7,000.00 Which is outstanding in horse his age jumping at this level.

One of the things that is  striking is his ability to take everything in his stride says Carron Nicol of her sisters’ Showjumping Stallion, Mr Visto.  “He has not ever stopped”, according to Carron, even taking his first encounter with The Dyke like any  other jump in the arena.  Carron is hoping  that we will see the pair of them at the Horse of The Year Show, just a few months away.

Caron Nicol aims for her Show Jumping Stallion? The Hickstead Derby…. Although she is thinking they might practice “the bank” first!

Carron Nicol says she has no doubt that he will make an Olympic Horse.  Carrons’ word on this is pretty much a sure fired bet.  She is one of the UK’s top show jumping producers and has 35 years of experience breeding, importing and producing horses through her very successful company European Sports Horses Limited which operates from the Rummer Stud in Warwickshire. Carron herself is a professional competitor in the international arena and, on Wednesday last,  she Won the National Ladies Championship at the Andrew Bowen Indoor Arena in a hotly contested final with 28 competitors with two double clears in an impressive 39.02 seconds on Mr Visto, at National Agricultural and Exhibition Centre (NAEC) in Warwickshire.

Mr Visto, this talented Carron Nicol Show Jumping Stallion,  is passing on his agility and athleticism to his progeny who are already proving themselves in the show jumping arena with his four and five year olds now competing.

And with 8 yearlings and 2 year olds with some brilliant jumping lines (Accorado 1, Darco, Lux, Pilot the list goes on) we shall be seeing many more of his progeny on the international circuits in the future I have no doubt.

Levisto, a Grand Prix show jumper, competed at the World Cup Final for Sweden then in 2009 was on TheTeam GB team at the European Championships  in 2008. A hugely successful show jumper campaigned by Judy Anne Melchior over a 7 year career at Grand Prix, and he stayed at the top of his game through out.   Levisto is by Leandro /Langraf 1 and x the Grand Prix mare Chica Bay (Hirtin). His dam line by Ariadus/Acord 11. Its interesting to note that On his 3rd dam line is the AES/SHB_GB Elite Event Stallion Carousel an event horse sire. His linage connections have proven performance horses through out with some of the best bloodlines available.  He would not only make a super match for a show jumping pedigree but also work well as an improver line for eventing, and his temperament is a bonus particularly for those wishing to produce a quality riding horse.

Lucie rode Barron at the World 2014 games where the American team took Bronze. Lucie also acquired Barrons’ half brother V Pleasure (For Pleasure x Nabab de Reve) just over a year ago. Since February this year, Scott Brash has a new ride named Hello Forever, (For Pleasure x Nimmerdor) on whom he won the feature class of the day at Miami Beach, the historic American Invitational, where Hello Forever flew round the course and powering past the second placed competitor.

For Pleasure retired from top level show jumping competition in 2006 (at the age of 20) but his career record shows that he is undoubtedly a stallion for breeders looking for a head start in the show jumping arena.

For Pleasure has certainly earned his stallion ranking through his progeny, but his own competition record proves his performance ranking with 3 gold medals on his result record. In 1999, the Germans took gold at the European Championships with another team gold in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. His third claimed in the 2003 European Championships and he also laid claim to the individual bronze with his rider Marcus Ehning.

For Pleasure won an incredible 10 international Grand Prix and 7 Nations Cups with Germany. For Pleasure won over 3 million euros during his career and was the top ranked sire for 2003.

He has classic Hanoverian good looks and conformation. For breeders looking for solid colour, his records show that he has produced an average 2/3 chestnut and 1/3 bay progeny.

Balou Star

Show Jumping Stallions Review: Balou Star

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Looking for Show Jumping Stallions? Balou Star is your man. This Grade A Oldenburg is jumping 1.50 with Millie Allen (AASE3 Haddon Training at Hartbury) on the GB British Juniors Show Jumping Squad.

Millie Allen believes her winning performance may have been down to the bird poo which landed on her in the warm up! Well, I suppose it is a possibility but there is no doubt at all that it was down to skill of the rider and the fantastic performance of the Show Jumping Stallion Balou Star living up to his name.

This stallion is the sire of approved AES Stallion Balou Blue Diamond. In 2014, the top scoring foal at the BEF Futurity was Jorvik Star, out of a Cruyff mare. He was awarded an elite premium with an outstanding score of 9.20 which was the highest score awarded to any foal in the entire 2014 UK Futurity circuit. The Judges (Lucinda Sims, Jennie Loriston Clarke and Bridget Parker) said, “Jorvik Star has super proportions and an active walk as well as a balanced and powerful canter.” “We spent many hours searching for a stallion to complement C Vera Z and having always admired the Quick Star and Balou de Rouet bloodlines, we found the young, little known German-based stallion Balou Star” said Kate.

Balou Star himself scored a perfect 10 for his jumping at his own licencing grading in Alsfeld in 2008. On the Balou Star website, there is a quote from F. Solle, breeding manager of the Hessian Association, “we had a special highlight in the loose jumping. Caution, overview, skill, reflexes and technique. Balou Star demonstrates almost perfectly how we wish the sequence at the jump out of a fluent, handy gallop.”

In 2008 at the 4-year-old stallions performance test in Erbach, he was reserve champion of the riding ponies. Also, against a field of 42 international top horses, he was awarded the maximum possible score of 10 twice for jumping manner and ability at the 30-days-test in Schlieckau. “The little fighter has a big heart and an enormous canter with large ground cover. Because of this as well as his enormous transmission, Balou Star is suitable for the higher level of show jumping”

The first breeding years already resulted in some prize-winning premium foals. In November 2012, Balou Star’s first son Butterfly Flip was licensed in Pferdestammbuch Weser-Ems.

His first foals are showing good jumping technique and conformation. Like their sire Balou Star, they “search” for the fence

His genetic line is full of proven jumping stars. His two grandsires Baloubet du Rouet and Quick Star are the top ranked WBFSH sires also sharing a common sire Galoubet A, descended from The Sire of the Century, Alme Z.

This lovely 15.74 cm Grade A Oldenburg stallion has frozen semen available in the UK.

The Billy Studs’ AES Stallion Billy Mexico is proving himself through his successful progeny

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Congratulations to Pippa Funnel and Billy Walk On at Chatsworth International earlier this month.

Billy Mexico, a striking AES/AWR approved stallion, is a successful international showjumper with William Funnel has competed along side his stud duties.

Besides his own skills in the competitive arena at CSI3* CSIO5*, his progeny are also making their own mark in the performance horse world. In January, Horse Scout blogged about the successful line up for the Billy Stud at the Futurity awards where Billy Walk On took just one of the first places awarded to Billy Stud that day.

Billy Walk On is showing just why he was feted at the Futurity Awards. He is performing so well out in the competitive arena with three wins from three starts already this season. Billy Studs’ busy news reel reported in March that Billy Walk On, the lovely 6yr old by Billy Mexico, led from the front in both his novice events, firstly at Tweseldown where the section had over 60 starters, then at Aldon, Pippa rode a 24.3 dressage which then gave her breathing space in cross country to pick up 8 time faults but still finish victorious”.

He followed this by another win at Somerly Park Horse Trials. Then yesterday, the Billy Stud reports that Pippa and the Walkinshaw’s amazing 6yr old Billy Walk On have once again brought home the top honors! He won the CIC* at Chatworth international, this was his first time competing at this level. This lovely son of Billy Mexico will now have a holiday in the field before returning to competition in the autumn…. Deservedly so!

Billy Mexico has the breeding to stand by his own successful progeny through both his sire Cevin Z his sire who was was bred by the prestigious Zangersheide Stud, and carries double crosses in his pedigree of both Cor de la Bryere and Capitol I. Cevin Zs’ youngstock are achieving top class results – in both show jumping and eventing at international level. Bidorette, the mother of Billy Mexico, is a proven broodmare having produced numerous good foals, in particular the approved stallion Fervent, a proven sire who achieved over $2000.00 in winnings and also Libro who jumped to Foxhunter level, with BSJA winnings of £974.00. Libro also excels as a dressage horse with 250 points and is working at advanced medium level.

Billy Mexico is by the Billy Stud AES / AWR approved stallion Cevin Z. He is an exceptional young stallion starting his competitive career with William Funnell. He is showing huge ability, combined with an excellent temperament. His pedigree sets him apart and combined with his talent and temperament ha has proven to be an ideal producer of high class sports horses, especially show jumpers and eventers.

His first crop of young stock were placed first and second at the Young Horse Championships in 2006. He has competed successfully with William Funnell at International level. His youngstock are achieving top class results – in both show jumping and eventing at international level.

2008 was Billy Mexico’s first season at stud and as a 3yr old only covered six mares, but the crop have been outstanding. As this crop reached maturity, William said “From what we have seen of Mexico’s progeny so far we are very excited about him as a breeding stallion. Considering we only covered the six mares the first year, all the offspring have shown his super technique and great brain”.
