Horse Scout Stallion review: Michael Whitakers ride Velini

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Velini, a star already making his presence felt in the competitive arena, is an AES Elite Stallion standing for Select Stallions. Velini is a testament to British Breeding and his future looks set as a top performance horse. Velini had his first outing of the 2015 season with Michael Whitaker at Jumping Amsterdam, and what a start to the season he had finishing 2nd in the 6 Bar. He showed his enviable scope and fantastic attitude in front of a packed Saturday night crowd in the Dutch arena.  Following this Velini flew on to Doha where he had two great rounds with Michael and took second in the 1.45m on the first day and in the table C at 1.45m but still took a credible 13th place having rolled a pole. “We were so impressed watching this class and Velini showed real class, it’s easy to see why Michael thinks so highly of him” said his owners Select Stallions.

Horse Scouts’ Stallion listings are a good starting point to contact his owners who say that Velini passes scope and athleticism to his offspring and combining this with his fantastic attitude makes him a top choice for your mare this season.

Velinis breeding tree on his Horse Scout lisitng is truncated but Velini’s pedigree is like a who’s who of show jumping with his entire line proven at the top level. Here is a short list of just some of his Grand Prix relations:

His Grandmother Paulien II (KWPN 1997 bay mare by Koriander) level 1.60m

His other Grandmother Fleur Z (Holstien by romino  SJ level 1.60m)

His Aunt Uceline (Athina Onassis)

Velini’s great grandmother, Finesse (CDI 5* dressage and 5* Show Jumping with Emile Hendrix)

Velini’s sire, Cheers Cassini jumping at Grand Prix for both Danish and German riders

At only 8 years old he jumped a clear round in the 1.60m Grand Prix at the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Barcelona ridden by Michael Whitaker.

I rode Velinis grandmother in many Grand Prix around the world, I hope to win some on Velini to. He has unbelievable talent, and is a star for the future.

Micheal Whitaker

His breeding has not only Voltaire but also Cor De La Breyere but also Ramiro Z.

A whirlwind on the Grand Prix Circuit: Gold Elite Stallion Typhoon S

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Typhoon S a Gold British Showjumping Elite Stallion standing for Select Stallions is a 17hh KWPN/Dutch Warmblood

This well made bay stallion Typhoon S is a British Breeding leader, a truly outstanding stallion. He has won multiple grand prix’s himself, while possessing all the traits desirable to breeders – a great brain, a super temperament along with all the scope, power and athleticism needed. He has the most trainable temperament and has a true desire to jump and win. Typhoon S has already been booked to cover some of the best mares in the country for 2015 and has a stand out listing on Horse Scouts’ Stallion Listing page.

His oldest progeny are now 6 years old; one particular outstanding son of Typhoon S is Freezing Rain who has been talked about throughout Europe after being the first British Bred horse to be Approved by the KWPN Studbook.

Typhoon S has an exemplary jumping pedigree in CALVADOS (URIEL/GOLDEN ROSE) International Grand Prix winner from a fantastic Grand Prix winning mare and a great dam’s family. He is also by one of France’s all time top Jumper sires. Its no surprise he’s proving such a good jumper sire with many really good 5 star GP offspring. Uriel is one of the all time leading jumper sires in France. He produced numerous good Grand Prix jumpers including ‘Naika de Baussy’ and ’Sissi de la Tour’, the top performers and sires ‘Rosire’, Rivage du Poncel’ and ‘Paladin des Ifs’. He is the dam’s sire of world champion jumper and successful sire ‘Dollar du Murier’ and his three parts sister ‘Dirka’ is mother to Olympic jumping medallist and leading sire ‘Quidam de Revel’………. His dam ‘Gold Rose’ by Alme’s sire Ibrahim, was herself a top international Grand Prix jumper on the French team winning the Grand Prix at Paris and Madrid and placing second in Lisbon, Barcelona and Hamburg…… Granddam ‘Jolie Rose’ produced 6 international jumpers.

His Dams breeding: NOBELLE S            LIBERO H and HURRICANE. The Holsteiner stallion Libero H (Landgraf I) is one of the most influential stallions of the decade both in sport and in breeding. With Jos Lansink, Libero H won a very impressive series of World Cup competitions and Grand Prix, highlight being the victory in the 1994 World Cup finals at ‘s-Hertogenbosch. With less than 600 offspring the number of international showjumping horses by him is truly remarkable with over 25% jumping at international level some of whom are listed below:

Castle Forbes Libertina (mv. Polydor, Jessica Kürten),

Lolita H (mv. Grannus, Toni Hassmann),

Castle Forbes Maike (mv. Lucky Boy xx, Jessica Kürten)

No Mercy (mv. Dillenburg, Christina Liebherr). Both Maike and No Mercy were successfully competing at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. At the 2004 KWPN stallion selection the stallion Ustinov (v. Libero H) was awarded for his outstanding showjumping qualities by receiving the title KWPN Stallion Champion 2004.

So it is no surprise that this lovely and successful stallion has produced, among others, the rising star freezing Rain.

A Warm Reception for Freezing Rain: the only British Stallion to have approved status by the KWPN Studbook

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Freezing Rain is a young stallion on the way up.  Born in 2010 this 16.2hh handsome bay AES Stallion was bred at Paddock Woods Stud with Select Stallions, where international event rider Emily Llewellyn and Polo player and show jumper Max Routledge are based. This stud with second to none facilities is a family run stud near Godalming in Surrey where the Grand Prix show jumper Typhoon’s son Freezing Rain was bred in 2010.

Freezing Rains listing on Horse Scout’s Stallion pages has some fabulous pictures of Freezing Rain and his sire Typhoon S. Freezing rain was assessed in the UK by the KWPN inspectors and was allowed to attend the two KWPN stallion grading shows in Holland in 2012 and early 2013. From the 500 3 year old stallions assessed by the KWPN  only a few, whose confirmation and jumping ability and veterinary assessment were of sufficient quality were invited to attend the  50 day performance testing in the autumn of 2013 where Freezing Rain he was made ‘Approved’ by the Studbook!

This has made Freezing the first British bred stallion ever to reach this level. We are justifiably proud of this achievement. Ricky is only a 5 year old Stallion but he is already making a name for himself. His first foal born on the stud has been named Mr Rainmaker he and paddocks Woods say “ He is a beautiful stamp of foal and is really bright and bold in his temperament”.

Freezing Rain is out of Tiandra (a Heartbreaker mare) and by Typhoon S Paddock Woods top breeding and competition stallion.
