Description

I'm Cat Hodges and I'm a BHS qualified riding instructor with a degree in Equine Studies.  I've spent my life riding and working with horses and have discovered a passion and ability for teaching and training.

I love to train and retrain horses.  I have experience with dressage, hunting, showing, show jumping and riding school horses - and spent a month in Italy working with Icelandic horses!  I have retrained racehorses to be suitable for riding schools, jumping and dressage and am continuing to do so.

I bought Nomad, my beautiful Irish Sports Horse, as a 4 year old that had just been backed (I was on work experience at Castle Leslie, Monaghan, Ireland.  I went for 6 weeks and came back with a horse... Oops). He came with me to Wales and since then, we have competed at Novice level dressage, jumped metre courses, hunted and been round cross country. While we were doing this, I was both studying and travelling at every chance (my priorities were different then) - so I can't wait to really get going!

In my teaching, I share in relatable terms what I have gained from all of these experiences. This includes experience and information drawn from lessons in traditional techniques (including some from Holger Münstermann and Arabella Whelan), and my own research into biomechanics and the rider's effect on the horse (including Ride With Your Mind and lessons from Karin Major).  My style enables me to explain challenging exercises in understandable terms.

I combine my methods with those of my client, so that all learning is continuous development.  For example, if a client is interested in Parelli, I will explain my methods in relatable terms.  In order to enable this, I encourage clients to tell me as much as they can about them and their horse, preferably by completing a questionnaire.
