Description

Claire has been riding since the age of 3, and after owning her first pony aged 11 began competing in showjumping soon after. She has produced many horses from scratch, including several senior horses to 1.30m level in showjumping, and has competed at most of the major festivals in the UK, as well as the Great Yorkshire Show and the Ponies UK SJ Championships at 16 years of age. After attaining a BSc Honours in Equine Science and Business Management plus BHS exams, Claire went on to work for 4 different racehorse Trainers; 2 professional showjumpers; taught at the Northern Riding Centre in Yorkshire; and worked for the Havery Park Eventing team. At these different yards she learnt not only how to be a better and more sympathetic rider, but also how to break in and school all different types of horses for different disciplines using a variety of different methods, from the more traditional approach, to more 'natural' techniques such as 'Join Up'. Claire also gained a lot of experience with "problem horses" - she took on her first job dealing with a problem pony at age 12 - and re-schooling racehorses, having taken on several herself to bring on. Claire now enjoys imparting her knowledge to others, by breaking and schooling horses as well as teaching people on their own horses throughout North and West Yorkshire. Her ethos when it comes to starting, schooling, or competition, is that every horse is an individual and should be treated as such.
